Aruba Quilt

Come join us for a fun day of quilting.  We will be transforming a fabric panel into a fun quilt. The Aruba quilt is made using the Illusion Block. This is a fast and easy lap size quilt using a fabric panel and 2 1-yard cuts of fabric to complete it. This class is for confident beginner quilters. Additional fabric will be needed for the backing and binding. The student needs to be able to sew an accurate ¼” seam.

The store sample was made using the Dog panel.

Supplies

•          Fabric Café Panel Perfect 3-Yard Quilts book
•          Sewing Machine in good working order, with power cord and foot pedal
•          New needle in sewing machine
•          Quarter inch presser foot
•          Rotary cutter with new blade
•          Cutting mat – 18” x 24”
•          6 ½” x 24” quilting ruler
•          Thread to use for piecing top - 50 weight neutral color is fine
•          2 bobbins filled with neutral color
•          Basic sewing supplies, including pins, pin cushion, scissors, seam ripper
•          Fabrics
  • Panel of your choice that contains blocks approximately 8” square – if the squares are slightly smaller or larger than 8” the  instructor will show the class how to adapt the blocks
  • 1-yard light fabric for background – directional fabric is not recommended
  • 1-yard dark fabric for contrast – directional fabric is not recommended

Cutting Instructions Prior to Class 

1.     Trim panel blocks. Leave ¼” around the block
2.     Remaining fabric will be cut in class to ensure the proper measurements are used. Panel blocks may be larger or small than what was        used in the pattern in the book.
