Soft Pottery - Double Rope Bowl with Fabric


Discover more ways to create soft pottery. Learn the process and tips for making useable and creative rope projects. Following step by step instructions, take ordinary clothesline rope, and turn it into a bowl combining wrapped rows of fabric and rows of plain rope.
Supplies:
Sewing Machine in good working order, including foot control and power cord
Large Spool Thread
plenty of bobbins, pre-wound, with same thread to match or contrast
Clothesline
Jean/Denim needle or 90/14 Titanium
Appropriate Zig Zag Foot, and Straight Stitch Foot – example A or B foot
Extension Table (Sew Steady Table or equivalent to make a flat surface)
Heat N Bond Light
Glue Stick
Scissors
Ruler
Straight Pins
Seam Ripper
Turning Tool
Tweezers
Wonder clips
Pen/Paper for notes
Fabric for wrapping rope -1/2 to 1 yard (see note below)
Optional: Quilting gloves (helpful to reduce hand fatigue)
Optional: colored thread with bobbins filled with same thread, yarn, beads with 6mm holes to add decorative touches to bowls
Rope being used: 3/16” Rope 20 yards total of rope (10 yards to wrap and 10 yards of color rope.) Or One pre-package Cotton Clothesline Rope. Both types of ropes available at SewWhat! Inc.
WIND ROPES INTO A BALL PRIOR TO CLASS. CHECK FOR ANY IRREGULARITIES.
Wrap Rows: Precut fabric strips of 1 1/2” cut on bias from a ½ to 1 yard of fabric, or fewer strips if only doing a few rows. Plus, a large piece of fabric for bottom of inside/outside bottom of bowl.
Non Wrap Row: Choice of a color rope or natural color rope for 2nd rope row.
Example used 23 strips of fabric cut plus fabric for bottom of a 4 ½” base.
