Too Cute To Spook: Scalloped Pillow

Ready to elevate your Halloween décor beyond the typical orange-and-black? In our Sophisticated Scallop Halloween Pillow class, you’ll create a beautiful throw pillow that blends festive charm with modern elegance.

This class focuses on the scalloped edge, either printed or stitched, —a refined finishing detail that adds texture, dimension, and a boutique-quality touch to your handmade pillow. We’ll walk you through everything from panel prep and cutting to sewing to adding an optional flanged edge. Select one of the four pillow fronts on your panel to stitch in class.

This class is ideal for confident beginners who want to grow their sewing skills, or intermediate sewists looking for a festive-yet-stylish fall project. By the end, you’ll leave with a finished pillow and the knowledge to add scalloped details to future makes.

As an added bonus, we will demonstrate a quick and easy tea towel embellishment using the wide selvedge edge of the panel.

Must be confident stitching curves to complete scallop edged pillow.

Supply List:

Sophisticated Pillow Panel

2 yards of backing fabric. (Enough for all 4 pillows.)

1 yard heavyweight fusible fleece for flange. May be omitted if you do not want a flanged edge.

Thread of choice and bobbin wound prior to class. Recommend matching to backing fabric. Samples were stitched with black. 

Rotary cutter mat and ruler 

Pressing cloth or 1/2 yard muslin 

Scissors and thread snips 

Turning tool - OESD or RNK tool recommended 

Pins and pin cushion

If stitching scallops, you will also need the following: 

Tracing wheel and tracing paper 

Optional presser feet: 

Open toe (scallops only)
1/4" piercing without guide 
Walking/dual feed 

Pillow forms used in samples were a 12" in the scalloped pillow and a 20" in the square.
